Males have large home ranges that may include the territories of five or more females. During the breeding season, which begins in March or April when these birds are in their winter areas, males display their feathers, spread out their tails and drag their wings. Breeding behavior of these birds is called strutting. The head and neck of the males can change in color depending on the bird’s mood. When they are excited, the head and neck are solid white. Some males court in pairs, which increases their chances of attracting females. Tips on cooking wild turkey with picture galleries and photos can be found on the Internet. The gobbler, or male bird, is more colorful, while the hen is a drab brownish or lighter color to camouflage her with her surroundings. Hens will lay a clutch of 10 to 12 eggs during a two-week period, usually laying one egg per day. She will incubate her eggs for about 28 days, occasionally turning and rearranging them, until they are ready to hatch. Tips on cooking wild turkey with picture galleries and photos can be found on the Internet.
