The Wild Turkey
When you are going to buy the wild turkey, don't rely on its photos, but visit the breeders.
Color varieties are very rare in the natural population of these birds, but in captivity they are created by selective work. Most breeders breed these birds for meat and eggs, but some of them create new varieties for decorative purposes. All color varieties have gray head, chest, throat and cheeks and differ by the feathers on the tail and wings.

The Wild Turkey -
photos, breeders
In some regions, the species is protected by law, but in most parts of its habitat it can be hunted with a license. Humans are the primary predators of these birds. It’s not easy for most predators to kill adult birds, but many predators feed on their eggs and chicks. These birds are widely spread in North and South America and are successfully introduced to other parts of the world. Being hardy and not picky, they quickly become numerous game birds. The oldest known bird of this species lived over 13 years, but the average life expectancy for these birds is estimated at 1.3 to 1.6 years. In captivity, these birds can live long lives and cause little problems to the owners. When you are going to buy the wild turkey, don't rely on its photos, but visit the breeders.
