Strong sexual dimorphism is characteristic of this species. Males are large and bright, because they don’t need to hide from predators. Gobbling males are a beautiful sight. They can be watched from a great distance, as they are very wary and have keen eyesight. During the breeding season, these birds cannot be hunted. Females are much smaller and dull in color. Such coloration makes hens and the nest with eggs and chicks almost invisible in the grass. In their natural habitats, these large birds cannot be mistaken for other species. Adult males measure 34-36 inches in body length and weight up to 38 lbs. These birds are ground-dwelling; they fly only at short distances, and are able to reach the speed of 88 km per hour.
