Wild Turkey Biology
Basics of wild turkey biology can be learnt from any breeder or by photo galleries.
These birds live in small flocks. They segregate on the basis of sex, but some adult males live alone. Hens with their chicks form family units until the next spring when the chicks leave the mother. Daughters may stay with the mother for several years, but young males unite in separate flocks in autumn. Juvenile gobblers occasionally associate with adult gobblers, but neither adult not young males associate with females except for the breeding season. In early spring, these birds form mating flocks with one or several males and 5-15 females. There is usually only one dominating male in the breeding flock. Others just help fight off other gobblers and cannot breed.
