Eastern Wild Turkey
The eastern wild turkey looks very exotic in the photos and pictures.
After the female bird mates, she prepares a nest under a bush in the woods and lays her tan and speckled brown eggs. She incubates as many as 18 eggs at a time. It takes about a month for the chicks to hatch. When the babies (known as poults) hatch, they flock with their mother all year (even through the winter.) For the first two weeks, the poults are unable to fly. The mother roosts on the ground with them during this time.

These birds that belong to the family Phasianidae, order Galliformes are the heaviest of their order, with the weight about 8 kg and the wingspan of up to 1.8 meters. Males of this species are very bright and attractive; they have red wattles on the throat and neck and fleshy growths called carbuncles. Their long feathers on the wings and tail have red, green, copper, bronze, and gold iridescence. These birds are generally solitary, gathering together only for breeding. Males are polygamous, but females are usually monogamous, living on the home range of dominant males. Females come in pale shades of gray and brown, which protect them in the tall grass.
