North American Wild Turkey
North american wild turkey picture galleries can be viewed on the websites of their breeders.
These birds can be easily kept in captivity. There are many breeders working with them in the USA and other countries. These birds are selected both for their size and exotic looks. These creatures have no special needs and are well adapted to captive lifestyle, as they don’t require special food and a lot of activity. Domestic variety is much larger and heavier than its ancestors.

North American Wild Turkey -
picture, breeders
Illegal hunting and habitat destruction are the main threats to these birds. Although the species is not threatened, as much as 90 percent of all adult gobblers are killed during the spring hunting season, when they search for females. Hens have to mate with younger, weaker and smaller males, which is not good for the gene pool. These birds are a common game species throughout America; they can be hunted throughout the year in most areas, but ethical hunters should not harvest juvenile birds and rather hunt in autumn, after the hens have raised their chicks. Captive-reared birds cannot be introduced in suitable habitats, because their diseases and poor genetic stock could negatively affect these birds. Only wild-caught birds should be introduced to other areas. North american wild turkey picture galleries can be viewed on the websites of their breeders.
